Thunderstorm Break

Silly B moved his chair behind Preston so he would be shielded from the smoke. Smartie.
And Arch decided he should sit in the wagon so he would have a portable seat. He's been pulling it around to different locations so he can sit by different family members.

Summertime!

I get so excited when it finally feels like summer here. Every year, I think how it SHOULD feel like summer because its June, and I spend most of the month of June bemoaning the near-freezing temperatures at night and rainy days...then suddenly it hits. SUMMER!

It goes from highs in the 50's to highs in the 90's (and above - we have 102 in the forecast!). Most people here seem to hate it and they complain about it being too hot. I LOVE it. I would be happy in 90 degrees year-round (although 100 is a bit too hot for even me).

All that to say, I think it's here! We're hovering right around 90 today and the boys and I were getting our daily dose of vitamin D by having a water balloon fight. Yesterday wasn't quite as warm, so the boys spent most of the day biking and hunting "butterflies" (moths) in the yard.

So excited that summer is HERE! (And seriously, N. Idaho...you better give me a few good months of it so I can forget about winter!)

Saturday Morning Bike Ride

We are fortunate to live in an area where there are plenty of bike trails. The boys LOVE riding bikes, and John and I both enjoy it as well, so it's an obvious family activity for us. We have been riding together since...well...before we had kids, although we ride more frequently now I think.

This is the first year we will be riding without a trailer (at least for rides on paths). This morning we took off with P & B both riding their bikes individually and Arch on the tag-along behind my bike. It was a short ride (we were kind of testing the waters to see how the boys would do with their new riding arrangements), but the weather was almost warm (thunderstorms looming...) and we had a good time!

Father's Day

The boys have spent a lot if time this week excitedly preparing for Father's Day. Preston, especially, made quite a few pieces of art for John, and he hid them in various places around the house. Treasure hunting is the thing to do around here I guess!

After breakfast, we headed out for a short walk along the beach, and then we headed to Silverwood for the day. We actually made it for about 3-4 hours which is pretty good for us! John got to go on one of his favorite rides, and we also it to go on some as a family. We hit the water park in the afternoon, even though I thought it was a little too cold...the boys definitely disagreed.

Now we are getting ready to BBQ steak and corn on the cob!

Roadtrip!

Last week, John had a conference in AZ, so I pulled Preston out of school a couple of days early and took a road trip to Oregon. It's a little nerve-racking for me to make the drive solo, but the boys did amazing and I really hope they do as well when we go back tomorrow as they did on the way here!

One thing I have realized after a couple of long trips in our tiny subaru is that we need a bigger car. It's so frustrating to have the kids sitting practically on top of each other, especially for 8 hours in a row! So hopefully soon we will be able to replace one of our vehicles with something that has third row seating, but we'll see!

The boys got to see all of their cousins, and they also got to spend plenty of time helping Poppa on the farm. The weather was so nice and warm, but it's time to go home and get summer started!
